Privacy policy
Effective date: 9 July 2026 · Last updated: 3 November 2026
We, the developers of Hush (the “App”), built this app. This policy explains what the App does, and does not do, with your information.
Information stored on your device (only)
The App stores the following locally, in private app storage, and never sends it anywhere:
| Data | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Focus sessions (start time, duration, counts, optional intention and progress check) | Your stats and streaks | Until you delete it |
| Saved focus profiles, block-list, VIP names, settings | Run your focus sessions | Until you delete it |
| Optional intention draft | Prepare your next session | Until replaced, cleared after a check-in, or deleted |
| Held-notification log (app name and sender title only, never message bodies) | The post-session “what you missed” summary | Deleted after each summary is dismissed |
You can erase all of the above at any time with Settings → Your data & privacy → Delete all my data.
Permissions and why the App uses them
The App only uses these capabilities to run focus sessions on your device:
- Do Not Disturb access: to silence notifications during a session and restore your previous setting afterward. During a session the App also makes sure calls from your starred contacts, and anyone who calls twice within 15 minutes, still ring; your own Do Not Disturb rules are put back when the session ends. The App does not read your contacts to do this.
- Display over other apps: to show the focus “block” screen when you open an app you've chosen to block.
- Usage access: to detect which app is in the foreground so it knows when to show that block screen. We do not build a history or profile of your app usage.
- Notification access (optional): if you enable it, the App logs only the sending app and title of notifications that arrive during a session, solely to show your “what you missed” summary, after which those records are deleted. The App never reads message contents, and never transmits this information.
- Notifications: to display the ongoing session timer.
- Foreground service: to keep a session running reliably while active.
- Run at startup: if your phone restarts during a session, to resume it or end it cleanly so Do Not Disturb isn't left on.
We do not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, SMS, or call logs.
Purchases
Optional “Pro” features are sold as a one-time purchase processed entirely by Google Play Billing. Google, not us, handles your payment. We never receive or store your name, email, or payment details; we only receive a yes/no entitlement from Google indicating whether you have purchased.
Data sharing
We do not share any data with third parties. The only third party involved is Google Play, which processes purchases under Google's Privacy Policy.
Backups
If you have Android Backup enabled, Android may back up the App's data (your focus sessions and stats, your block and VIP lists, and settings) to your own Google Drive using Google's encrypted backup mechanism, so it can be restored on a new phone. If a backup happens during a session, it may include that session's held-notification log (app names and titles), which is deleted after the summary. Backups are controlled by your device settings, not by us, and we cannot access them.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone. Because the App collects no data at all, it poses no specific risk to children.
Security
Your data lives in Android's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot access. Because the App transmits nothing, there is no server-side data to breach.
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from other servers: its fonts and images are served from the site itself.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will change the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at the same URL.
